When you have a video series called Oscar’s Hotel of Fantastical Creatures – which features a whole cast of fantastical creature puppets – there’s sure to be a lot of work behind the scenes.
In this video, viewers get a look at the making of the food creatures in episode 3, “Death’s Hotel.” At Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the producers discuss the look of the creatures, and from there, the designers craft pieces of foam into foods like ginger root and broccoli.

“Ginger root was my favorite because I even got to see ginger root being made at the early stages,” actor Chris Kendall said. “And even when I just saw the foam head, I was like, ‘I don’t know why, I’ve got a feeling about this puppet. It’s going to be the best one.’”
The six-episode series comes from YouTube star PJ Liguori (KickThePJ) in association with The Jim Henson Company. The story follows Oliver (Chris Kendall), who takes over his Uncle Oscar’s hotel for a week and must navigate a new world of fantastical creatures. The cast includes digital influencers like Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, Hannah Hart, and Anna Akana. Actors Patrick Stewart, Alfred Molina, and Elliott Gould and YouTube sensation Felix Kjellberg also lend their voices to the series.
