Beware the raving Rabbids! They’re being thrown on the silver screen. Sony teamed up with Ubisoft Pictures and tabbed a trio of Robot Chicken scribes to produce a hybrid live-action, stop-motion animated feature film of the video-game characters, the studio confirmed to EW.
Matthew Senreich, Tom Sheppard, and Zeb Wells are tasked with converting the Rayman baddies into a unique sounding film. None of the three writers boast movie writing credits, but all three have won Emmys for their Robot Chicken work.
The Rabbids had humble beginnings, starting as obstacles for Rayman’s adventures in Ubisoft’s games. They were spun off into a line of their own video games, the most recent being Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show. It tied in the TV show, Rabbids Invasion, with added minigames that players could play on the PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The film will draw from the games and the TV show.
Ubisoft has a handful of movies in the works based on their video games franchises, but only one is in development: Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons, and directed by Justin Kurzel.
