This Star Wars: Battlefront trailer hits peak nostalgia

Remember X-Wings?

It’s Monday. You’re at work. You’re bored. The cruel realities of adult life have rarely seemed so cruel, so real. There, on the corner of your desk, lies an old R2-D2 toy, corroded by time, a fading memory of some faded lifetime.

Fortunately, you live in a world where everything is about to be Star Wars, all of the time. Later on Monday, the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives, beginning the exciting new era of annual films set in the galaxy far, far away.

Arguably even more anticipated by a certain slice of fandom is Star Wars: Battlefront, the new videogame from Electronic Arts. The game comes out on Nov. 17, and a new, trailer-ish commercial from Playstation purposefully taps into all our cultural reserves of nostalgia for X-Wings, AT-ATs, the Battle of Hoth, and generally anything that defined Star Wars before 1999.
