Adele had some trouble crying on command for the Xavier Dolan-directed “Hello” music video — so she asked him to break out her secret weapon: Labrinth’s “Jealous.”

“The minute that piano starts, I’m like,” she told I-D before breaking into a “fake wail.” “Snot going everywhere. I can’t cope with that song. You could play it at my kid’s birthday and I’d burst into tears.”

Dolan recently told EW about the song’s tearjerking effect on the singer, but left it up to Adele to reveal the specifics. “I don’t know what that song means to her,” he said. “It sounds like it’s connected to something private.”

And it worked: “Crying like that… we were all stunned,” he told EW. “It was outstanding. She was bawling, but not doing it in an uncontrollable way. She was truly impressive.”
