Dave Navarro recounts his mother's murder in Mourning Son trailer

Dave Navarro’s mother was murdered in 1983, when Navarro was just 15 years old — and the Jane’s Addiction guitarist shares the effect that’s had on his life in the new trailer for Mourning Son, an upcoming documentary executive-produced by Navarro and directed by Todd Newman.

The killer, John Riccardi, was on the loose until 1991. During that time, Navarro joined Jane’s Addiction and was struggling with both fear and heroin addiction. “I was afraid,” he says of the time before Riccardi was arrested. “Was he going to kill me?”

Now, Navarro is revisiting that dark time. “It’s the most profound moment of my life,” he says in the trailer, “and I don’t think that I should sweep it under the rug anymore.”
