Miike Snow's music video director details the making of action-packed 'Heart Is Full'

"We wanted to create a world loaded with zillions of comic book, sci-fi, and video game references from my childhood fantasies," says director Lance Drake.

After a three-year absence, Swedish-pop trio Miike Snow dropped a new track “Heart Is Full” at the end of last month. This week, they debuted a dark, twisted, dystopian video to match the tune’s chugging bassline.

“For the video, we wanted to create a world loaded with zillions of comic book, sci-fi, and video game references from my childhood fantasies,” says director Lance Drake. “Nearly every frame has a small homage — Ghost in the Shell, 5th Element, and Mortal Kombat to name a few.”

Something that doesn’t require as keen an eye in the clip: Our video centerpiece. “My goal was to create fierce, female characters in total control of an over the top world. In our lead, played by Braina Laviena, I found so much more than beauty. [She has] a killer charm and a stealth sensitivity.”

And while the day shoot didn’t exactly go off without a hitch — “My son Theodore Baron was born in the middle of our production,” Drake says — the end result is sleek, sexy, sordid fun. “Heart Is Full,” which appears on Miike Snow’s upcoming third LP III due out in 2016, is streaming below.
