Jesse Tyler Ferguson is returning to Broadway, and he won’t play just one character — he’ll play 40. The Modern Family actor and five-time Emmy Award nominee will star in the comedy Fully Committed, a one-man show directed by Jason Moore, the Tony-nominated director of Pitch Perfect, Avenue Q, and the upcoming Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy, Sisters. The remaining creative team will be announced at a later time.

The show marks Ferguson’s first time back on Broadway since The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. “I’m beyond thrilled to be making my return to Broadway in a piece I love so much. Becky Mode’s hilarious play Fully Committed perfectly captures a genius story at the intersection of food, entertainment, and pop culture — and I’m really looking forward to start working with Jason on all of these incredibly funny characters,” Ferguson said in a statement. “It’s also a dream to be reuniting with Patrick and Barbara who helped bring The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to Broadway. It feels like a homecoming and I know we are all going to have a ball putting this show together!”

“It’s so exciting to be working with Jesse and Becky on Fully Committed,” added Moore. “I’ve been searching for my next Broadway project, and this is it — Jesse is a remarkable actor and comedian, and Becky’s script is hysterical.”

Written by Becky Mode, the play centers around Sam, who works the reservation line at one of New York’s trendiest restaurants — and, as a result, interacts with some of the city’s most interesting people. Furgeson will play all 40 characters in the show including the main character and, according to a press release, the play will be updated to reflect today’s food and restaurant culture.

Fully Committed will begin performances on April 2, 2016, at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, with official opening night scheduled for April 26. It will run as a limited engagement through July 24, 2016.
