In 11/22/63, the J.J. Abrams-backed event series based on Stephen King’s best-selling thriller, high school English teacher Jake Epping (James Franco) gets the chance to travel back in time to play the hero and stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

But in the first teaser trailer for the series, it’s clear time isn’t on Jake’s side. “I’m gonna tell you something that’s gonna sound crazy,” a man off-screen tells him as he stands in a doorway, looking perturbed. “When you go through there, it’s 1960.” A series of shots of Jake in the 1960s follows, offering glimpses of characters he meets (like Sarah Gadon’s Sadie Hill), objects he finds (a burned book), and trouble to come (he wields a gun, and cautiously peers outside of a window). As a disembodied voice ominously says at the end, “You shouldn’t be here.”
