Patti LaBelle celebrated Thanksgiving with her newly famous fan James Wright on Thursday. The 71-year-old singer welcomed the YouTube personality into her home after he made headlines for his commentary on LaBelle’s now-infamous pies.
Wright, whose video review of Patti LaBelle Sweet Potato Pie reached more than 3 million views, shared photos and footage from his trip to LaBelle’s home alongside The Roots’ Questlove.

Most People Just Bless The Food. We Blessed The Food Then Sang Entire Catalogues To The Bone & THEN Ate. @jameswrightchanel & @mspattilabelle finally make music together. Best #thanksgiving in a long time. I’m blessed to be living the dream & experiencing stuff like this. #FinallyPATTI #HappyThanksgiving
The day was particularly special for Wright, as he celebrated his birthday Thursday. The LaBelle enthusiast was fêted properly with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” from his idol, a decorated birthday cake, and a dance with LaBelle to the 1970s hit “You Are My Friend.”
“This has been the best Thanksgiving ever and it’s also been the best birthday ever and I’m very very grateful,” Wright wrote on Facebook. “And at this point in my life I’m kind of speechless but we serve an awesome God a God that can change your life around in less than a second I seek Him so I can be more and more like Him daily like I always say when I’m done the whole world is going to be smiling. Thank you Ms. Patti Labelle.”
