Becoming a cowboy is an expensive proposition, as James Corden found out on Wednesday night.

The Late Late Show host had country superstar Carrie Underwood appear on the latest edition of Carpool Karaoke, and the unlikely duo went shopping for an outfit fit for a cowboy (boots, vest, and hat). All told, the Western attire would have cost Corden around $4,000. “We’re not all multiplatinum recording artists,” Corden joked. “We haven’t all had four Billboard No. 1s. Some of us are on CBS at 12:30.”

Clothes aside, the bit was a success: Corden had Underwood hold a note as long as she could, sing her hit songs “Before He Cheats” and “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” and even provide her own take on Wham! hit “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.”
