The world of Minecraft — that is, whatever the player designs that world to be — is finally coming to the Wii U, and it’s just a little more than a week away.
Mojang has announced that the Wii U edition of Minecraft will hit the console and be downloadable from the Nintendo eShop on Dec. 17, costing $29.99. The Wii U version will come with six of the game’s extra downloadable content packs released for the game on other platforms along with the core game. Players will also be able to play on the Wii U’s GamePad rather than on the TV screen.
Microsoft purchased Mojang and the Minecraft franchise late last year, and since then has allowed the game to continue existing on competitors’ platforms like the PlayStation 4 and now the Wii U. Independent developer Telltale Games has also been producing an episodic series based on the license, Minecraft: Story Mode. And a Minecraft movie directed by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney is also on the way.
