Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) knows the rules — never get out of bed, never go to the window, and never look behind the curtain — but she can’t help but break them when up alone at 3 a.m. She finds much more than she expected to, however, when she takes a peek outside.

The teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG reveals Sophie’s startling discovery — described by narration as “where our story begins.”

The film, based on Dahl’s 1982 children’s book, tells the story of Sophie, an orphan who discovers the titular big friendly giant (voiced by Mark Rylance). The two of them set out, with help from the Queen of England, of course, to prevent the man-eating giants invading the world from causing any harm.

Directed by Spielberg with a screenplay from Melissa Mathison, Disney’s The BFG also stars Penelope Wilton, Rebecca Hall, and Bill Hader.  The movie hits theaters on July 1, 2016.
