“I’ve been trying to write this song for years and years,” Jana Kramer says of her hit single, “I Got The Boy.” The wait was worth it. Featuring the familiar heartbreak of seeing an ex change, it’s one of the more staggering singles to hit radio in 2015.

When Tim Nichols, Connie Harrington, and Jamie Lynn Spears finally did write the track, Kramer, 34 says she was taken with the song almost immediately. “I kind of lost it a little bit—because it brought me right back to that moment being back in Michigan, with my high school sweetheart Matthew and the decision that I made moving away from Michigan and following my dreams.”

It’s also one of the most traditional country singles this year, featuring the warm, heartbreaking pluck of the Dobro. Check it out above. “I Got The Boy” is off Kramer’s second album, Thirty One, which released earlier this fall.
