A helicopter working on the MTV reality series The Challenge crashed in western Argentina on Saturday, killing both people on board.
A local official said the Bell 206 helicopter crashed as it flew over a reservoir at Potrerillos de Mendoza dam, the Associated Press reports. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
MTV said in a statement that the helicopter was working on The Challenge, a co-production of MTV and Bunim-Murray Productions, and was en route to a shooting location when it went down. The two people on board were not cast or crew members for the show, the network said.
According to the AP, the security minister for Argentina’s Mendoza province, Gianni Vernier, told the state news agency Telam that searches were unable to retrieve the bodies Saturday because the wreckage was nearly 200 feet below the surface.
This is the second deadly helicopter crash in Argentina this year involving a reality show. Last March, two helicopters working on the survival series Dropped collided in northwestern Argentina, killing 10 people including three noted French athletes.
