James Franco tries to save JFK over and over in new 11.22.63 teaser

It's not easy when time travels backwards

Time begins to work in funny ways when James Franco heads back to the 1960s — and in this new teaser for the J.J. Abrams-backed event series, it travels backwards.

Frank Dunning (Josh Duhamel) inhales the cigarette smoke he had exhaled. Lee Harvey Oswald (Daniel Webber) steps out of the building he just entered. Sadie (Sarah Gadon) pulls away from kissing Jake (Franco). And maybe — if one of the final frames of the trailer, at the 0:25 mark, comes true — the bullet meant for John F. Kennedy’s head can spin away from its mark.

After all, time’s a strange entity — or rather, an “obdurate” one, as Stephen King writes in 11/22/63, the best-selling novel on which the series is based. It does everything it can to stop the time-traveling Jake (Franco) from achieving his goal to save the president, and in some quick shots in this new trailer, time’s tactics include crashing a car into a telephone booth feet away from Jake, as well as trapping him in a … room full of cockroaches?

11.22.63, which also stars Chris Cooper, Cherry Jones, and T.R. Knight, premieres Feb. 15 on Hulu.
