Casting Net: Jeremy Renner attached to star in Rocky Marciano biopic

  • Jeremy Renner is trading his bow and arrow for boxing gloves. The Avengers actor is attached to star in the Undefeated: The Rocky Marciano Story, an authorized biopic about the heavyweight champ. Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore wrote the script, and Morris S. Levy is producing. The search is on for a director. [Deadline, Variety]
  • Laurence Fishburne is reuniting with his old Matrix costar Keanu Reeves for a cameo in John Wick 2, the sequel to the sleeper hit about an ice-cold hitman avenging his slain puppy. Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the original John Wick with David Leitch, is helming solo this time. (Stahelski and Leitch also did stunt work on the Matrix movies.) Shooting is currently underway.   • The action-comedy Little Red Corvette is revving up with Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien attached to star for Twentieth Century Fox. Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners) is in talks to direct the movie, about a dorky brother and his wild older sister who find a stash of drugs in their late father’s vintage Vette. Michael Diliberti wrote the script, which previously bounced around at GK Films, MRC, and Columbia Pictures. [Hollywood Reporter]
  • Nathan Lane, Gabriel Byrne, and William Moseley have boarded the coming-of-age tale Carrie Pilby. They join Bel Powley (Diary of a Teenage Girl) in the adaptation of Caren Lissner’s 2003 novel about a 19-year-old Harvard graduate who has trouble adjusting to life outside college. Susan Johnson is directing from a script by Kara Holden. Principal photography has started in New York. [Hollywood Reporter]
