February is Valentine’s season. It also is, not coincidentally, Nicholas Sparks season. Message in a Bottle, Dear John, and Safe Haven all opened around the year’s most romantic holiday, and The Choice is following that path next year.

In the 11th film based on a Sparks book, Benjamin Walker plays Travis, a handsome ladies man who’s very happy with the pace and tenor of his easygoing single life, which he shares with his loyal dog, Moby. But wouldn’t you know it… a beautiful medical student named Gabby (Teresa Palmer) moves next door, and she’s not as enamored with her new neighbor as he is with himself — at least not at first. Some puppy love finally brings them together — that is, when Moby knocks up Gabby’s pooch, Molly.

In this exclusive scene from the film, a meet-cute built in part upon swollen nipples, Travis realizes that his usual charm isn’t necessarily enough to win over his new no-nonsense neighbor. Despite this rough start, something tells me they’ll eventually make nice, sharing a strand of spaghetti that ends up in a kiss — at least metaphorically.

The Choice, directed by Ross Katz (Adult Beginners) and also starring Maggie Grace, Alexandra Daddario, Tom Welling, Brett Rice, and Tom Wilkinson, opens Feb. 5.
