Ariana Grande paid homage to the Broadway show that helped jumpstart her to stardom when she stopped by Jason Robert Brown’s Los Angeles concert Monday night. Brown and Grande worked together on the Broadway musical 13 in 2008, which featured music and lyrics by the Tony winner, and starred Grande as a popular high school cheerleader in an all-teenage cast.
The “Focus” singer was 14 at the time of the production, but reunited with Brown Monday to reprise two songs from the musical — “The Lamest Place In the World” and “Brand New You” — along with “Getting Out” from his album Wearing Someone Else’s Clothes.
“I happened to bump into an international pop star the other day and I asked her if it would be fun to sing a tune or two and she said, ‘Three,’” Brown told Broadway World. “And I said, ‘Three would be fine.’”
