Battling Boy is inching closer to the big screen. Paul Pope’s 2013 dystopian superhero graphic novel has been in development at Paramount for years — since before the comic itself was finished, actually. Earlier this year Feast’s Kevin Osborne was tapped to direct, and now EW can confirm that Jason Mantzoukas will write the film. Mantzoukas’ previous writing credits include the first Ride Along, and he also appeared in The League, Transparent, and the upcoming Dirty Grandpa

Battling Boy is set in the dystopian city of Acropolis. When Acropolis’ longtime superhero protector dies in battle, it’s up to a 12-year-old demigod and the hero’s daughter to save the city from monstrous threats. There is currently no cast or release date announced for Battling Boy.

Deadline was the first to report the news.
