After years preparing for the journey, a new Fantastic Voyage may finally be preparing to launch.
EW has confirmed that Guillermo del Toro is in talks to develop and direct a remake of the 1966 film Fantastc Voyage. James Cameron has been lined up to produce the film since 2009, and will do so through his Lightstorm Entertainment company in conjunction with Fox.
Del Toro’s involvement would include working with David Goyer, who del Toro previously collaborated with for Blade II, on the film’s script. Paul Greengrass was at one time in talks to direct the film.
The original 1966 film focused on the crew of a submarine shrinking small enough to enter a scientist’s body to save his life from threatening health issues. The Richard Fleischer-directed original was nominated for five Oscars, winning two of them.
