NBC orders office comedy with DC superheroes

(DC Comics)

It’s The Office with superheroes.

NBC has ordered a comedy pilot set in the DC Comics universe “full of superheroes, villains and people just like us.” The title is Powerless and it’s billed as “an office comedy about the exceedingly average employees at an insurance company and their quest to find their own power.” Ben Queen (Cars 2) is the writer. So it’s a bit like… DC’s Agents of Allstate?

Powerless is one of four pilots ordered by the network on Thursday that also include Marlon Wayans potentially returning to TV in a self-titled series. The pitch: “Loosely inspired by Marlon Wayans’ life, this multi-camera comedy centers on an inappropriate but loving father (Wayans) committed to successfully co-parenting with his polar opposite ex-wife.”

There’s also an untitled project from two 30 Rock veterans, one of them Tracey Wigfield (“An already inseparable mother/daughter relationship becomes more complicated when mom accepts an internship at her daughter’s workplace”) and the other is an untitled project from Matt Hubbard (“Loosely based on Matt’s life, a show about a guy learning to manage the expectations and strong cultural traditions of his in-laws after he moves his family to his wife’s hometown”).
