New Suicide Squad photo debuts, alongside details about Batman's role

Suicide Squad assemble! The first big team-up of the quickly forming DC Cinematic Universe flips the Avengers-style format on its head, and a new photo of the dirty half-dozen gives us a better idea of what these big personalities will look like sharing the frame.

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) all got together for the shot featured in USA Today’s story about the shared universe, which also contained some new info about Ben Affleck’s role in Suicide Squad.

Director David Ayer shared his enthusiasm for the day that Affleck came to set to film his brief role in the film as the Squad’s caped nemesis. “We made him fight,” Ayer said. “He’s awesome (as Batman)…. You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

Affleck kept quiet about his involvement in the project, but made an apt familial comparison to Suicide Squad, which is set to open in theaters on Aug. 5. “It felt like I have such a cool cousin,” he said. “This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling.”
