As Neil deGrasse Tyson has done with many recent blockbusters, the astrophysicist offered some thoughts and facts about the science of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  And in response, Tyson explains he was met with a host of “prickly people” upset with his comments.

“You can’t say anything bad. […] You can’t say anything correct if it somehow gets interpretred as saying something bad,” Tyson said while appearing on Monday’s episode of Conan. Tyson was defending his claim that Star Trek‘s Starship Enterprise would “wipe its ass” with the Millennium Falcon, not based on a personal preference for Star Trek but simply for how he sees each ship stacking up against each other.

“People lost their minds over this,” Tyson continued, referencing the response to his tweet that BB-8 “would have skidded uncontrollably on sand” rather than manuever as nimbly as he does in The Force Awakens.
