The lovable pocket monsters of Pokémon turn 20 on Feb. 27, and The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and the game’s developers are ringing in the anniversary with a host of new games and items.
A debut trailer highlights what’s to come for the 20th anniversary of the series that first launched on Game Boy in 1996. Nintendo’s latest handheld device, the 3DS, will have a special bundle with the original Pokémon Red and Blue versions pre-installed in the system, along with Charizard and Blastoise cover plates for the system. The games will also be available on Feb. 27 for fans to download onto their 3DS systems.
Two new games are also set to release in the 20th year of Pokémon running through the tall grass. Pokémon Go will bring the Pokémon into the real world with a game that lets players scour their environments to hunt for Pokémon and battle. Pokkén Tournament will also arrive, offering players a new fighting experience featuring some of the most beloved Pokémon from throughout the series’ many generations.
