New X-Files trailer: 'This is just the beginning'

(Fox)

“Are you ready for this?”

With just nine days to go until The X-Files’ return, Fox has released a new trailer for the six-episode event series — and it may just give you goosebumps. The trailer, which debuted at TCA on Friday, drops a literal UFO on life as everyone knows it, and it doesn’t let up from there

“All these years we’ve been deceived,” says David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder. “A decade of my life. I’m being led by my nose through a dead end.”

Featuring a chillingly slowed-down version of the X-Files theme, the trailer sees Mulder and Scully (Gillian Anderson) getting back to business: running down shadowy hallways toward closed doors, finding dead bodies where they don’t belong, and facing down lights in the sky.

“This is just the beginning,” Scully declares. That’s fine by us.

In fact, series creator Chris Carter revealed at TCA that he doesn’t see this as the end of the story. “If we do well in the ratings, I can’t imagine we wouldn’t be asked to do more,” Carter said.

The X-Files returns Jan. 24 on Fox.
