Jennifer Lawrence is attached to star in Marita, a biographical drama about Fidel Castro’s onetime lover Marita Lorenz, EW has confirmed.

Sony Pictures moved aggressively to acquire the project, which will be scripted by American Hustle co-writer Eric Warren Singer.

Marita is to chronicle the stranger-than-fiction life of Lorenz, a German native who had an affair with Castro in the wake of the Cuban revolution, when she was just 19. After leaving island nation, Lorenz was recruited by the CIA to assassinate Castro. She later claimed to have inside information about the assassination of JFK and said that she spied for the FBI. She has written two memoirs and resides in Maryland.

Lawrence, who earned her fourth Oscar nomination last week (for Joy) and recently wrapped Sony’s sci-fi drama Passengers, will also produce Marita, alongside Scott Mednick, Matt Tolmach, and Andre Rouleau.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
