Not much his known about the sound of “Pillowtalk” or Malik’s forthcoming album, but the singer teased an R&B vibe to Billboard. Peter Edge, chairman and CEO of Malik’s new label RCA, said his music “doesn’t feel like choreographed pop.”
Malik announced his departure from One Direction back in March and he later tweeted he left to show fans “the real me.”
During an interview with Fader, he said, “Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us. There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling. I wasn’t 100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me.”
