CBS orders pilots for MacGyver reboot, Dr. Phil-inspired drama

MacGyver might be headed back to TV.

CBS has ordered a pilot modernizing the resourceful agent, to be directed by Furious 7 helmer James Wan, EW has learned. Written and executive produced by Paul Downs Colaizzo, the reimagining will center on a 20-something MacGyver who is recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters. Michael Clear and Henry Winkler will executive produce.

That’s not the only pilot CBS ordered; Dr. Phil McGraw is set to tell his story in Bull.

The TV psychologist will executive produce and write a pilot for the drama based on his early career, when he ran a prolific trial consulting service. Paul Attanasio (Donnie Brasco) will write and executive produce alongside McGraw. McGraw’s oldest son Jay McGraw as well as Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank of Amblin Television will also executive produce.
