Amy Adams is keen on Sharp Objects. The American Hustle actress has signed on to star in the small-screen adaptation of Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, EW has confirmed.

Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild) will direct the project, which is being shopped to cable and streaming networks by Entertainment One and Blumhouse Productions. Marti Noxon (Unreal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was previously announced as writer and showrunner.

Published in 2006, Sharp Objects centers on Camille Preaker (Adams), a reporter who returns to her small hometown after a stint at a psychiatric hospital and begins covering a murder involving two preteen girls.

Adams and Vallee have previously been linked to a Janis Joplin biopic together, but the project has been mired in legal trouble. They each have films due in the coming months: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for Adams and Demolition for Vallée.

As for Flynn, a former EW writer and television critic, her short story The Grownup was just snapped up by Universal last week.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported Adams’ casting.
