Game of Thrones season 6 gets spoofed during SNL sketch

Featuring Peter Dinklage, and Bobby Moynihan... as Drogon

(NBC)

Game of Thrones season 6 doesn’t premiere for another three weeks, but fans got an early “look” at what to expect from Drogon during the latest episode of Saturday Night Live.

Okay, not really – but the sketch comedy show imagined an HBO First Look episode devoted the motion-capture technology used to create Drogon on the set of the hit series. Host Peter Dinklage played himself in the bit, with Kate McKinnon impersonating Emilia Clarke, Taran Killam as Iain Glen, and Bobby Moynihan as the actor cast to play Drogon. Things seem to go relatively fine – except when Moynihan has to go to the bathroom.

In reality, season 6 of Game of Thrones debuts on April 24. “This season there is not a weak episode,” co-creator David Benioff told EW about the show’s latest edition. “We had great directors who knew what they were doing, paired with excellent [directors of photography]. We thought at the script stage it might be our strongest season. Then the episodes came in better than we hoped. We’re always reluctant to say it’s ‘the best season yet’ because so much of that is in the eyes of the beholder. And Dan [Weiss, co-creator] and I are so close to it that it’s impossible to be unbiased. But that’s my sense – watching them all together now, this is the best one we’ve done. It’s also the one I’m proudest of, because it was the hardest.”

Good thing they didn’t have to deal with the mo-cap actor. Watch the SNL spoof below.
