The Little Mermaid is resurfacing this summer with the help of stars like Sara Bareilles, Rebel Wilson, and Darren Criss. On June 4, a celebrity cast will perform the movie’s soundtrack backed by a full orchestra as the film plays at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater.
Sara Bareilles will lead the cast as Ariel, with Rebel Wilson playing the evil sea-witch Ursula. Rounding out the rest of the cast, Darren Criss will play Prince Eric, Tituss Burgess will play Sebastian, and John Stamos will play Chef Louis. Burgess actually originated the role of Sebastian the Crab in the Broadway staging of The Little Mermaid, and Bareilles gave a preview of her Ariel performance when she sang “Part of Your World” for an audience at her new musical Waitress last week.
According to the film’s co-composer Alan Menken, this performance will be the first time his entire score has been performed by a live orchestra since it was first recorded more than 25 years ago. The staging will also include songs Menken wrote for The Little Mermaid Broadway musical, which do not appear in the film.
Tickets for the June 4 performance will go on sale Saturday, April 9.
