The militant extremists of ISIS are no laughing matter, but Bono thinks they should be. The U2 frontman addressed a Senate subcommittee Tuesday with a proposal that the U.S. use comedy to help fight ISIS.

“Don’t laugh, but I think comedy should be deployed,” Bono said. “It’s like if you speak violence, you speak their language, but you laugh at them when their goose-stepping down the street and it takes away their power.”

And Bono has some names in mind to lead the fight: “I’m suggesting that the senate send in Amy Schumer and Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen.”

As funny as the idea may sound, it actually isn’t too far-fetched. After Bono made his proposal, New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen admitted that she’s heard similar proposals from experts on countering extremism. Maybe laughter really is the best medicine… even when it comes to international conflict.
