Some actors have unconventional ways of proving themselves fit for a part. Jared Leto, for instance, has made sure everyone knows how many weird Joker-like things he did to his Suicide Squad castmates. Back in the day, Juliette Lewis apparently did something similar to secure her Natural Born Killers role During their interview on Thursday night to promote her new documentary Hard Lovin’ Woman, Seth Meyers asked Lewis about rumors that she had threatened to kill her director Oliver Stone.

“I’ve been around for a long time now, and you start to hear these urban legends about yourself,” Lewis said. “Apparently there was a rumor that to get the part to play a killer, I told Oliver I would kill him or something. And then I thought about it and I was like, ‘Oh shoot, I think I actually kind of did that.'”

Lewis quickly clarified that she hadn’t threatened to kill Stone so much as explained to him exactly how she would kill him, if she ever did.

“Oh, this is a very thin line we’re talking about right now,” Meyers said.

Lewis either didn’t remember or declined to explicate her exact murder methodology. She just remembered the feeling of it, and its beneficial effect. “I just did it icily cold and very weird, and he thought I’m weird enough to play that role,” Lewis said.

“Well, he was right, and you were right to threaten to kill him,” Meyers said.
