SNL: Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars in fake Mercedes ad for AA battery-powered car

(Saturday Night Live via Hulu)

Matthew McConaughey knows how to make car ads sexy, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus had a hard time of it on SNL. Perhaps it was because her product was a AA battery-powered Mercedes. More specifically, a Mercedes powered by thousands of AA batteries.

The concept of a battery-powered vehicle may seem like a good idea on its own, but it’s a tough sell when you learn the specifics. The Mercedes AA Class model is pegged as the first fully electric luxury sedan powered entirely by AA batteries. “There are a million uses for these little wonders,” says Dreyfus. “Well, make that a million and one.”

There may be no more plugs or charging stations, but you need 9,648 AA batteries to power this puppy — and they’ll all burn out within a mile or so. Let’s see McConaughey spin that one.
