Late Show: Stephen Colbert's Friday Night Fights features wizard-robot smackdown

(The Late Show with Stephen Colbert)

Much as Marvel and DC fans have debated which is the greater comic book entity, so have J.R.R. Tolkien and J.K. Rowling fans argued over the greater wizard: Gandalf or Dumbledore? But Stephen Colbert is throwing in an extra layer to complicate the debate.

On The Late Show’s latest edition of Friday Night Fights, Colbert’s weekly Twitter poll, it’s a fight between pairs: Gandalf and Optimus Prime from Transformers against Dumbledore and Voltron. Watch them duke it out in the video below.

Both pairs are incredibly powerful, so it comes down to the nitty-gritty details. “Gandalf is basically a hobo,” Colbert argued. “He doesn’t even have a castle.” The host’s guest, Thomes Lennon, explained Dumbledore is already at a disadvantage because he has to keep his memories in a bowl (the Pensieve).

You can also take sides in the poll above, but Lennon has some pretty solid points. He joked, “Optimus Prime has survived four films with Michael Bay.”
