The cast of NBC’s Hairspray Live! is starting to take shape: Jennifer Hudson, fresh off her Broadway debut in The Color Purple, and Harvey Fierstein, who won a Tony for originating the role of Edna Turnblad, will star in the musical adaptation airing Dec. 7.

Hudson will play Motormouth Maybelle in the TV movie, the character portrayed by Queen Latifah in the 2007 film. Fierstein, returing as Edna, is also adapting the teleplay for the live event.
