Get ready to rock. Later this year, Rock Band 4 will release an online multiplayer update, allowing users to play with others on separate consoles for the first time.
Developer Harmonix made the announcement at the PAX East gaming convention this weekend, adding that the update is set to be released around the holiday season at the end of 2016. Although they are still early in the development stages, the idea behind the new feature is to give users a “Quickplay-esque gameplay.”

Leading up to the multiplayer feature release, Rock Band 4 will also be adding new updates throughout 2016. In May, the game is adding playable characters from the Battleborn franchise, and shortly after it will add a “Practice Mode” feature that will allow players to slow down songs and loop sections of songs to help get tricky areas down. In fall, Harmonix will release the first Rock Band 4 expansion pack and promise enhancements to the music library around that time as well.
