Charli XCX releases sleek, dance-heavy video for single 'Vroom Vroom'

Charli XCX is back with the first music video from her upcoming third studio album. In the “Vroom Vroom” video, which was actually released last week on Apple Music before going wide Friday, the pop singer dances to the electro-pop song in a high ponytail and a black spandex bodysuit.

Shot mainly in black and white with sleek, stylized imagery, the “Vroom Vroom” video underlines the more mature and nuanced new style that the song itself had already announced for Charli XCX. As the namesake and first song from XCX’s new label Vroom Vroom Recordings, it’s easy to tell that the British pop star — who debuted as a synth-y pop artist with True Romance and transitioned into a loud pop-punk sound with SUCKER — is ushering in a new sound and style for herself with this new album.

As XCX alternates between rapping and falsetto singing over a sparse electronic beat, we see her whipping her long pony tail around in front of a luxury car and jumping around on a crowded dance floor. At the very end of the video, the black-and-white disappears and Charli XCX advances toward the camera decked out in bright red.
