Children’s books are very helpful. Their colorful pictures and simple words help ease kids into reading, while also providing them with important lessons about the world: Don’t give a mouse a cookie, be wary of Grinches, etc. Comedian Michael Ian Black’s latest children’s book is steeped in this tradition, as it aims to prepare young readers for one of the craziest realities of modern life: Donald Trump.
“It’s called A Child’s First Book of Trump, and the intention is for if you need to explain to your children what a Trump is, this book can help you out,” Black said.
Written by Black and illustrated by Marc Rosenthal, A Child’s First Book of Trump gives a Seussian treatment to the former reality TV host and current Republican presidential nominee. Black read aloud one rhyming excerpt: “The beasty is called an American Trump / Its skin is bright orange, its figure is plump / Its fur so complex you might get enveloped / Its hands are sadly underdeveloped.”
A Child’s First Book of Trump is out July 5, and can be pre-ordered now. Watch the clip below.
