War never ends, even after you leave — at least that’s true for Billy Lynn (Joe Alwyn), the soldier at the center of Ang Lee’s upcoming Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.
The film, based on Ben Fountain’s 2012 novel of the same name, gets its title from the Thanksgiving football game where Lynn and his fellow surviving soldiers appear onstage after returning from Iraq. But it’s not all fireworks and screaming fans: Lynn can’t shake his memories from the war, especially because he’s set to return to the front lines soon.
“Billy Lynn is a story of love, courage, and devotion,” Lee, whose past credits include The Life of Pi and Brokeback Mountain, previously said in a statement. “It’s the story of a young man learning his place in the world, and of the special brotherhood among men at arms, the depths of their bonds, and the sacrifices they make.”
