The Wire actor Wendell Pierce arrested for simple battery

The Wire star Wendell Pierce was arrested for simple battery in Atlanta on Saturday. 

According to arrest records, Pierce, 52, was booked in Fulton County Jail on Saturday and released later that day on a $1,000 bond. According to ABC News, Pierce was staying at Lowes Hotel in Atlanta and was at the hotel when he was taken into custody. 

Further details about the arrest were not immediately known. A rep for Pierce did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 

Pierce, who hails from New Orleans, is perhaps best known for playing Detective Bunk Moreland on The Wire and musician Antoine Batiste in Treme. He also portrayed Michael Davenport in Waiting to Exhale

He most recently portrayed Clarence Thomas in HBO’s Confirmation
