PICK OF THE WEEKEND
AMC, Sunday, 10 p.m.
“If comic book guy from The Simpsons could watch Preacher,” EW’s Melissa Maerz writes, “it might be his favorite new show — or at least the one he most relishes nitpicking.” Sold! You can read the rest of our review of the buzzy new series here.
Netflix, Friday, streaming
Maria Bamford is a truly weird woman. You may know her from her roles on Arrested Development or Bojack Horseman, but from here on out, you’ll definitely remember her for this bold new comedy. Check out our review here.
The CW, Friday, 9 p.m.
After a season of Shakespearean tragedy, the finale will find the Mikaelsons having to answer for their decision to betray Marcel. How do I know this? I found out all about it in our finale preview interview with showrunner Michael Narducci, of course.
A ROLE AS BIG AS TEXAS
All the Way
HBO, Saturday, 8 p.m.
Bryan Cranston isn’t Walter White anymore, but in this movie event, he’ll play someone just as shrewd: L.B.J.
Saturday Night Live
NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.
The prodigal son returns! Former cast member Fred Armisen hosts the finale, because apparently being on Portlandia, Documentary Now!, and Late Night With Seth Meyers isn’t enough work for him.
Call the Midwife
PBS, Sunday, 8 p.m.
The season 5 finale hits on the ideal Call the Midwife trifecta of feelings: humor, tenderness, and crying. That last one comes after the death of a beloved character, whose passing resonates all across the East End. Keep plenty of tissues handy.
2016 Billboard Music Awards
ABC, Sunday, 8 p.m.
The Canadian invasion is in full force: The Weeknd leads the field with 19 nominations, followed closely by Justin Bieber and Drake, while Celine Dion is this year’s Icon Award honoree. Not bad, eh? But maybe you’re more interested in Britney Spears being presented with the coveted Millennium Award? Or how about Madonna honoring Prince? There’s something for everyone! Except, like, Scandinavian death metal fans. Sorry, Scandinavian death metal fans!
Fox, Sunday, 8:30 & 9:30 p.m.
Tonight will mark the series’ 100th episode. Well done, Burgers! To celebrate, we got creator Loren Bouchard and the cast to talk about some of their favorite memories from the show’s run.
PBS, Sunday, 9 p.m.
Call it Blue Detective: The gloomy U.K. crime series ends for good.
Fear the Walking Dead
AMC, Sunday, 9 p.m.
Last week brought a shocking twist, with Strand making quite an intense relationship decision. This Sunday ratchets up the drama even higher — and you can take an early look at some of it with our exclusive sneak peak here.
