Ralph Fiennes’ Richard III to air live in movie theaters worldwide

(Hugo Glendinning)

Those who can’t score a ticket to see Ralph Fiennes on the London stage are in luck.

The Almeida Theatre announced Thursday that its production of Richard III starring Fiennes in the title role and Vanessa Redgrave as Queen Margaret will be broadcast live to movie theaters in the U.K. and around the world this summer.

Almeida Theatre Live is launching in partnership with distributor Picturehouse Entertainment, giving worldwide audiences the chance to see plays from the theater’s London home.

The broadcast of Richard III is being produced by produced Illuminations (which previously filmed Patrick Stewart’s Macbeth and David Tennant’s Hamlet) and will be shot using multiple cameras around the stage and auditorium.

Rupert Goold, who directed Stewart on stage in Macbeth and also helmed Richard II for BBC’s The Hollow Crown series, is directing the stage production. The live Richard III broadcast will take place on July 21. Participating theaters and showtimes can be found here.
