(Severin Films)

Severin Films announced Wednesday that it will release the extreme and notorious horror film Doctor Butcher M.D. on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time on July 26. This 1980 tale of a deranged surgeon (the “M.D.” actually stands for “Medical Deviate”) played in other territories as Zombie Holocaust but was both renamed and re-edited for the U.S., where it became a hugely successful fixture of grindhouse-era 42nd Street.

The Severin release features restored versions of both Doctor Butcher M.D. and Zombie Holocaust as well as an eye-popping array of bonus extras, including interviews with actors Ian McCulloch and Sherryl Buchanan. The first 5,000 copies of this two-disc set will also comes with what is being described as “an official Doctor Butcher barf bag.”
