Salma Hayek joined actor Kelsey Grammar on The Graham Norton Show Thursday night to talk about her attempt to prank her husband. Spoiler: it didn’t go well!

The story began after host Graham Norton asked the actress about her hobby of collecting animals. She detailed her laundry list of pets, including 10 dogs, 5 parrots, alpacas, horses, and cats. While she and her hubby François-Henri Pinault clearly have a heart for animals, Hayek stressed that her Kering CEO husband wanted no more.

Her love for rescuing the critters gave her a plan, though. “I came up with this brilliant idea to tell him that I was having an affair,” explained Hayek. “At the end I would say, ‘No, I got a dog,’ and he would feel better.”

After leaving a message for Pinault trying to set up the possible affair, her plan quickly began to crumble. “I have patience. Be understanding. It’s been so stressful, I’m so tired, and I’m so lonely here for so many days and you do things in this crazy state!” The punch line to her scheme hit before she could even get out her speech. “Oh, please don’t tell me you picked up another dog,” said Pinault.
