Legends of Tomorrow has added Vixen to its roster of superheroes in season 2 — but there’s a twist!

EW has confirmed that Vixen will be a series regular next season, but Megalyn E.K. — who voices the role in the animated spin-off and brought her to life on Arrow — won’t be portraying her. As first reported by TVInsider.com, the actress has other commitments and is unavailable.

The show is casting for a new version of Vixen, or rather, an old version. Thanks to the magic of time travel, we’ll be meeting a version of Vixen from before E.K.’s Mari McCabe took up the mantle. E.K. will still voice McCabe on the animated series, and the door is open for her to return as Mari/Vixen on any of the DC shows.

The news that Vixen will be joining the team isn’t surprising. After the character, who can tap into the powers of animals thanks to her family’s Tantu Totem, made quite an impression on Arrow, fans called for the heroine to have her own series. CW boss Mark Pedowitz even said back in January that this could happen. “Hopefully that character could actually spin itself out; if not, maybe join as one of the Legends,” Pedowitz said.

The addition of Vixen comes after the team lost both Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) in the final episodes of the show’s first season.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return this fall on The CW.
