“What we did made it worse for everyone.” These words from Darlene in a new teaser for Mr. Robot suggest that the Five/Nine hacks didn’t come without their price. And based on the brief look at the new season, which premieres on July 13, none of the characters seems that psyched about how things have shaken out.

Even though the preview is quick (see below), there’s plenty to unpack here. Let’s start with the few seconds that suggest that Evil Corp hasn’t turned to dust in the wind because of fsociety’s hack. Darlene has a pessimistic view about the results of Five/Nine. Did they really accomplish anything? Did they actually hurt the people they were trying to help? Those questions could define Darlene’s arc in season 2.

The other big addition was Agent Dom DiPierro, played by new cast member Grace Gummer. She’s the FBI investigator assigned to the case, and Angela in particlar is concerned about people talking to DiPierro.

And then there’s Joanna Wellick covered in blood and screaming. Stephanie Corneliussen, the actress who plays her, got bumped up to series regular for season 2, so expect to see more insanity from Mrs. Wellick this year. Oh goody!
