Based on the bestselling book series by Dav Pilkey, the film adaptation tells the origin story of two overly imaginative pranksters named George (Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) who hypnotize their unpleasant principal into becoming the dim-witted but charmingly enthusiastic superhero, Captain Underpants.

Hart and Helms lead a cast that also includes Jordan Peele (as annoying child-genius Melvin) and Nick Kroll (as the villainous Professor Poopypants). The film comes from a script by Nick Stoller (The Muppets).

Since its debut in 1997, author and illustrator Pilkey’s Captain Underpants series has sold over 70 million books worldwide in more than 20 languages. The series already has a robust 12 novels, along with countless spin-offs and companion books.
