Russell Crowe fails to inspire in cut SNL sketch

Russell Crowe is no Mr. Nice Guy in a cut sketch from his April hosting gig on Saturday Night Live.

In the clip, the Gladiator actor gives his best pep talk to his baseball team, while leaving much to be desired. The coach starts out by telling the team how no one gave them a chance, “You’re unathletic, uncoordinated. Hell, we’ve even got a girl on the team,” he says as he points to a boy, who has long hair and is sitting between two girls on the co-ed team.

After suggesting he may have bet against his team, he tells them not to win the championship for themselves or for him, but for their mothers. Then, going player by player, he talks about their mother in a sexually suggestive manner. “I call your mom the Discovery channel because every time I turn her on I learn something new and there’s always animal noises,” the coach tells one player.

His speech ends up being for nothing as a woman (Leslie Jones) barges in threatening to beat him up if he doesn’t pay the money he owes, which he says is no problem since he’s getting the kids drunk to ensure they lose.
