James Bay has put a soulful spin on Coldplay and Beyoncé’s collaborative hit “Hymn for the Weekend.”
During his BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance, which you can see above, the English singer-songwriter — whose debut album Chaos and the Calm landed him two Grammy nominations (Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for “Hold Back the River”), earning a third for Best New Artist — spun his raspy vocals and laid back tone over the beat-driven track. Thankfully, Coldplay was nothing but ecstatic to hear the cover.
The band shared the video on its Twitter with some kind words. “Beautiful cover of Hymn from the incredible @JamesBayMusic,” captioned the Grammy Award-winning band.

The 25-year old rocker reciprocated the sentiments with his own tweet, writing, “Cheers guys xx.”

Bay isn’t a stranger to covers, last year taking on “FourFiveSeconds” — the Rihanna collaboration with Kanye West and Paul McCartney.
